The Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI)

Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) is an instrument which is used to measure what a teacher understands and puts  into action in teaching.

Researchers classified the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) as five perspectives namely Transmission, Apprenticeship, Developmental, Nurturing and Social Reform perspectives.

Transmission
In this perspective, delivering the content or subject matter effectively is the success of the teacher.

Apprenticeship
This perspective of teaching understands the behavior of the students while catering accordingly by making the students responsible to work on their own.

Developmental
Developmental Perspective of teaching is a teaching perspective where “questioning” and “bridging knowledge”(providing meaningful examples) is more challengeable to learners.

Nurturing
This perspective is about holistic education and in turn results in development of self-efficiency of learners.

Social Reform
It is about teaching in a more social perspective than concerning individual development.

Each teacher has his/her own teaching perspective which the capabilities of the teacher give way for teaching. In my opinion those perspectives also can be identified under one or two of the above mentioned Teaching Perspectives Inventory.

THINK ABOUT YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF TEACHING!
